Hanyut: A Novel-based film by U-Wei Saari

U-Wei introduces other characters who add insult to injury. Among them are the lackadaisical and brainless Sultan (El Manik), with his sycophantic right hand man, Orang Kaya Tinggi (Khalid Salleh).
The movie was produced using the accumulation of a RM10 million loan from Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN), a RM6 million grant from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and a RM2 million investment from Finas.
Produced by Tanah Licin Sdn Bhd, Hanyut features 25 different sets, which took 12 weeks to build, and was shot in Kampung Padang Tengku, Kuala Lipis, as well as along the banks of Sungai Pahang.
Sofia Jane plays an important role in Hanyut, as Mem, the devious wife of protagonist Almayer.

Set in the 19th century, the story follows a Dutch trader named Almayer, struggling to survive in Malaya.
Hanyut is a story about a cosmopolitan society living and working together along a riverbank some-where in the late 19th century.
With a production budget of RM18 million, the film stars Australian actor Peter O'Brien and Malaysian actors Datin Sofia Jane, Diana Danielle, Adi Putra, Khalid Salleh and British actor, James Corley.
