CIDB stressed that employers who are found to hire illegal workers with fake documents could face disciplinary action.

Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said the statistic was from Ops Mega which was launched on July 1 throughout the nation.

The Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) has appealed to the government for an extension for the e-card registration until Feb 15, 2018.

A total of 20,108 Enforcement Card or E-card has been issued by the Immigration department to illegal workers in the country.

Illegal foreign workers are allowed to go back to their countries using legal means to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said the cooperation included getting local authorities to monitor business premises especially food stalls employing foreigners.

Employers found not registering illegal foreign workers under the Illegal Immigrants Rehiring and Relocation Programme will be charged in court, said Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

It is hoped the government will work closely with business associations and local chambers of commerce to legalise all illegal workers to help SMEs grow their businesses.

Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said issues pertaining to the economy, border, haze and illegal workers were always discussed in a cordial manner between the two countries.

The Home Ministry (KDN) has convened discussions with several labour source countries to issue one-way travel document in a bid to deport illegal foreign workers to their countries of origin.

Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the ministry will deport all illegal workers before bringing about 1.5 million Bangladeshis.

Employers who employ illegal workers will no longer be just issued fines and compound but will be charged in court.

The Malaysian government has always ensured that the welfare and interests of Indian workers in the country are looked after, said Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam
